Depending on the material you choose, your rug can be completed with binding, folded edges with underlay, selvedge and tuck, or overlocking.

BINDING
Binding creates a defined border around the rug, giving it a structured and tailored appearance.
It can be used to blend naturally with the weave or create a stronger contrast around the edge.
Our binding options include:
- Natural jute binding
- Black jute binding
- Selected fabric binding options
Binding is available on sisal, seagrass, jute, wool/jute and coir rugs. It is not available on our pure wool rugs.
Most bound rugs are completed with a natural latex backing to help add stability and reduce movement.

FOLDED EDGES WITH UNDERLAY
Folded edges create a clean, seamless finish by folding the rug material underneath around the perimeter.
The rug is completed with an underlay backing, adding cushioning, structure and comfort underfoot.
This finish works particularly well in living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and other spaces where a softer and more substantial rug is preferred.
Best for:
A clean, refined appearance with added cushioning.
Available on:
Sisal, seagrass and selected wool/jute rugs.
Feel:
Thicker and softer underfoot than a latex-backed rug.
SELVEDGE AND TUCK
Selvedge and tuck preserves the natural woven edge of the material.
The woven selvedge is retained along two sides, while the remaining edges are neatly tucked and finished. Depending on the weave, this may create a small natural fringe.
This finish gives the rug a relaxed, organic appearance and works particularly well with naturally textured materials.
Selvedge-and-tuck rugs are generally completed with a natural latex backing but we can do an underlay as well.
Best for:
A natural, relaxed and understated look.
Available on:
Jute, coir and wool/jute rugs (not pure wool rugs)
Thicker and softer underfoot than a latex-backed rug.
OVERLOCKING
Overlocking creates a neat, stitched edge around the rug.
It provides a simple and durable finish while allowing the texture and softness of the wool to remain the focus.
Our pure wool rugs are finished with overlocking only.
Best for:
A clean, minimal edge on pure wool rugs.
Available on:
All of our rugs.
RUG BACKING OPTIONS
Natural latex backing
Natural latex is applied to the underside of all of our material to help provide stability and reduce movement.
So our overlocked, bound and selvedge-and-tucked rugs will have a latex backing.
As latex is a natural rubber product, gradual wear can occur over time depending on use, flooring conditions and environmental factors.
Underlay backing
Underlay backing is used with our folded-edge finish and can be used under bounded or selvedge and tuck rugs as well. Our underlay is made from recycled textiles from our supplier - Palm Fiber in Kerela, India.
It adds cushioning, structure and comfort while creating a softer and more substantial rug.
Underlay can also provide additional sound and temperature insulation.

Once your order is confirmed, most custom rugs are made by our Adelaide team within approximately 2½ weeks, followed by delivery.
